LexMedia Offers Expanded Youth TV Production Opportunities

June 4, 2010: LexMedia continues to grow and connect to the community and one area that is expanding fast is our offerings to the youth of Lexington. We are proud to announce the formation of a new after school video club and the start of the annual summer youth TV production series.

LexMedia film club
LexMedia is starting a youth “Film Club” that will be open to Lexington residents age 14 to 18. The purpose of this club is to foster a young film makers community in Lexington. To that end LexMedia and it’s staff will offer the film makers a collaborative production structure, production space, mentoring, training and equipment. The equipment we have to offer includes new high quality HD video cameras, new portable lighting, new shotgun mics with a boom, a new Jib and much more.

As a collaborative venture we will choose our production projects carefully with many factors considered. These will include: Time, budget, actors, locations, scripts and more. The actual productions made may range from the very short form to feature film length. The club will meet every Friday all year long from 3:30 to 5:30pm at LexMedia. For more information on joining the film club contact Mark McMinn at mark@lexmedia.org or call 781–862–5388 or stop in the LexMedia studios at the Avalon at Lexington Hills apartment complex.

Summer TV production series
This summer 12 kids will meet for one week at LexMedia to produce a TV show. This series is Aug,16th to 20th from 1 to 4pm. During this week they will do it all, from coming up with the story ideas to writing scripts, acting and running the studio cameras. This is a hands on experience. The participants will work as a group to come up with show production ideas and will assist each-other in every aspect of production. Typically the program is made of one large show like a game show or news show etc. Around this bigger show are the shorter productions. These can take many forms, from commercials to promo’s for movies and other TV shows etc. What is finally created is dependent on the imagination of the participants with staff guidance and encouragement.

The summer production series is open to kids 10–13 years old. Cost $80 per participant. For more information please Mark McMinn at mailto:mark@lexmedia.org or call 781–862–5388 or stop in the LexMedia studios at the Avalon at Lexington Hills apartment complex.
