Winter 2009-2010 Courses at LexMedia

As part of its Winter Lineup, LexMedia has announced the schedule for courses to be offered at our Studios at Avalon Lexington Hills. The following courses will be offered:

  • LexMedia Orientation
  • Introduction to Field Production Operations
  • Introduction to Digital Editing
  • Introduction to Studio Production
  • All Around Lexington Workshop

LexMedia Orientation
The orientation explains our policies, your responsibilities and your options for getting involved in community access TV. The 45-minute session will include a walk though of studios A, B and K, the control room, master control, and the edit room. We will give an overview of: how to get content on the air, borrow and return LexMedia production equipment, place a listing on the Community Bulletin Board (CBB), get involved in on-going productions, and become a supportive member of LexMedia in other ways.

Introduction to Field Production Operations
This two-hour course will introduce members to the Mini DV camcorders LexMedia has to offer, the Panasonic PV GS500, the Canon GL2 and the Sony HDR-HC7. We will cover basic on-location production techniques including: site evaluation, tripod use, hand-held camera techniques, shot composition, camera movement, audio considerations and equipment, and lighting. We will work through typical filming scenarios to prepare members for their own productions.

Introduction to Digital Editing
This class will introduce LexMedia members to Adobe Editing Software. You will learn the basics of digital video editing. Topics covered include: Setting up and organizing your project files, capturing digital video, basic editing techniques, b-roll selection and building sequences, and finalizing your program for playback on a DVD. The sessions will run on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday evening for 11/2 hours.

Introduction to Studio Production
This three hour course is designed to teach members how to set up a multi-camera studio shoot in one of LexMedia’s studios. Topics covered include: an explanation of basic crew requirements and job titles, set-up of studio cameras and tripods, audio and lighting, and an introduction to the video switcher and the graphic generator. We’ll also cover basic directing techniques. At the conclusion members are encouraged to join a production crew and become part of current LexMedia productions.

All Around Lexington Workshop
Join other members of the community who have a story to tell. This is a four-week workshop, led by LexMedia staff, that takes participants from a story idea to a produced piece ready-for-air .We meet as a group to discuss story ideas and development, then break down the tasks to culminate in a segment for our NEW All Around Lexington show which is produced by our members monthly. The workshop is on-going you can join at anytime.
